Following the 2021 Myanmar military coup, thousands of Chin people from Myanmar have fled to the neighboring Mizoram State in India, settling temporarily along both sides of the Indo-Myanmar border.
Although the Indian government and Mizoram-based NGOs have provided some humanitarian assistance, it remains insufficient to meet their daily survival needs. The Chin people are in dire need of help. In response, Love and Action is committed to providing food relief and medical aid to support them during this crisis.
Many Chin-Myanmar IDPs in Chin State and Refugees in Mizoram face significant challenges in providing safe childbirth services. In Chin State, numerous mothers are forced to give birth in makeshift IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps, enduring immense suffering and pain without access to professional medical care or medication. This is largely due to the absence of trained midwives and government healthcare personnel in these areas.
Through an initiative led by the Love and Action Foundation, from Chin-Myanmar refugee leaders in Mizoram side and Chin IDP elders in Chin State side across Indo-Myanmar border gathered to discuss the healthcare needs of their communities. As a result, it was decided that two young and enthusiastic individuals from each refugee and IDP camp would be selected to receive training as midwives and in basic first aid skills. The training program not only imparted knowledge of midwifery and first aid but also covered essential skills such as temperature checks and daily health assessments.
In addition to their training, the newly trained refugees and IDPs for midwife knowledge were also instructed on how to prescribe medication as needed. A selection of essential medicines was also provided, with guidance on their careful use when necessary.
At Love & Action Foundation, we are dedicated to uplifting individuals and communities through compassionate support and effective action. Our mission focuses on addressing poverty, restoring dignity, and fostering lasting change.
